The Raseborg Castle was built in the 1370s as an administrative centre for western Uusimaa. It was abandoned in the 16th century. Since the late 19th century, the castle has been restored several times. These days, the Raseborg Castle Ruins have been protected as ancient ruins.

The outdoor activities in the Raseborg Castle are guided with the rules and regulations. When getting around in nature, let’s show respect for it. Take a look at the Outdoor Etiquette.
Please don’t share any such contents on the Internet that break the rules of the Raseborg Castle.
Pets must always be kept on a leash and their droppings must be picked up.
Sheep in nature management work and their feeding are taken care of. Please do not bring anything to the sheep or give them anything to eat or drink from outside the pastures or anything that is otherwise unsuitable for them, as they may fall ill. If you go through a pasture gate, make sure that you also close the gate behind you.
Getting Around in the Raseborg Castle Ruins
You can move freely in the Raseborg Castle Ruins area on foot, snowshoeing and skiing.
Biking
Biking and mountain biking are allowed with everyone's right on clear routes in the area, with regard the other pedestrians.
The roads around the castle area are mainly walking paths that run between the castle, Slottsknekten's hut, the information point and the parking area.
Raseborg Castle Ruins is also one of the stops on the Castle Route (site in Swedish raaseporinlinna.fi). The Castle Route is a 36 km long cycling and hiking trail that passes through a beautiful landscape full of culture, history and ancient memories.
Camping
Camping is prohibited.
Lighting Campfires
Lighting Campfires is prohibited.
Litter-free Hiking
There are mixed waste bins in the Raseborg Castle Ruins.

Picking Berries, Mushrooms and Wild Herbs
Taking or damaging trees, bushes, other plants or their parts, or mushrooms other than edible ones is forbidden. Picking wild herbs and flowering plants is prohibited.
Flying drones is allowed anywhere visitors are allowed to go to, as long as it does not disturb other people or wild animals. They should not be flown at all during bird nesting season from 1 April to 31 July.

Other Rules and Instructions
As a rule, a permit issued by Metsähallitus is required for activities other than those included in everyman's rights, which may include research, organised events and the shooting of films or advertisements in the terrain. Further information on required permits: research and access permits (metsa.fi) and permits and notifications related to events (metsa.fi).
The Raseborg Castle Ruins area is rented to Metsähallitus's contract operator, who provides services at the site. Other business activities in the area are possible in cooperation with the entrepreneur while taking other events, performances and events at the site into account.
Other Forbidden Activities
The Raseborg Castle Ruins is a fixed relic site, which may not be excavated, covered or damaged in any way under the Antiquities Act (finlex.fi, in finnish).
The Raseborg Castle Ruins and its protected areas have been protected under the Antiquities Act.
Safety
It is important that you get as much information as possible about your hiking destination in advance and prepare for your trip thoroughly. - The ruin castle has steep stairs and uneven terrain, so wear sturdy shoes. The stone stairs, trails and access bridges may be slippery when wet, snowy or frozen.
- Wear weather-appropriate clothing when visiting.
- At the end of your day trip, check for ticks - also from children and pets. You might find ticks especially in crooks and creases. Remove ticks using tweezers that you can buy at pharmacies.
- A defibrillator is available at the information point of the Raseborg Castle Ruins during opening hours.
