Salamajärvi National Park also offers opportunities for hiking for those who come out with an assistive device or apram. The demanding accessible trail of Koirasalmi starts from outside the Nature Information Hut and heads out in two directions: to the fen and the isthmus. There are accessible campfire sites in Koirasalmi, and a fishing platform on Iso Koirajärvi lake.

Accessibility of Koirasalmi Nature Information Hut
Koirasalmi Nature Information Hut grounds: When accessing the grounds from the right, there is a steep hill of around 10 metres in length and a 13% gradient. When approaching from the left, visitors must climb uphill for 12 m. The gradient is 8% to 10%.
The gradient of the ramp leading to the café in the Nature Information Hut is 9.5% while the cross slope is 2.7%. In the entrance hall, 120 cm x 120 cm of free space is available for turning. The gaps in the metal grating of the ramp are 29 mm x 100 mm in size. The steps leading to the café are steep. There is a handrail on one side of the steps.
The gradient of the ramp leading to the accommodation facilities in the Nature Hut is 14% to 16%. The ramp has a landing with an approx. 180 degree turn. The gaps in the metal grating of the ramp are 33 mm x 33 mm in size. The steps leading to the accommodation rooms are steep. There is a handrail on one side of the steps.

Hiking structures in the grounds of Koirasalmi Nature Information Hut
Toilet: The toilet outside the Nature Information Hut is suitable for some visitors needing accessible services. One of the toilets can be reached along a ramp with an 18.5% gradient leading straight to the toilet door. Looking in from the doorway, the free space beside the toilet seat is 60 cm on the left and 39 cm on the right. You may need your own light source in the toilet, also during daylight hours.
Dock and campfire site: Following the trail from the toilet, the dock is on the right. The path to the dock has some rocks, and it descends steeply to the shore with a 15.5% gradient. The height of the seat on the dock is 42 cm. Nearby the dock, there is a campfire site with benches on three sides.
Maahinen rental hut: After the dock and campfire site, there is a rental hut along the trail. The hut is reached along a ramp with an 8% gradient. Right in front of the door, there is also a shorter and steeper ramp with a 16% gradient. A doorsill that is 2 cm in height must be crossed to enter. Rentals of Maahinen hut are handled by Koirasalmi Nature Information Hut (koirasalmi.com).
Hiking structures on the Koirasalmi isthmus
Campfire sites and fishing platform: On the Koirasalmi isthmus, there is a lean-to shelter and a campfire site, fee-paying tent and caravan sites and, for visitors needing accessible services, a possibility of fishing from a fishing platform. Contact Koirasalmi Nature Information Hut (koirasalmi.com) to ask about the tent and caravan sites. The trail leading to the campfire site and fishing platform is uneven, and there are roots and some rocks on the trail surface. The campfire site is open on one side. A 6-cm doorsill must be crossed at the entrance to the lean-to shelter. The firewood sheds are not accessible.
Accessible toilet: The distance to the toilet from the campfire site is approx. 60 m. Before the toilet building, there is an uphill section of approx. 6 m in length with a 9% gradient. The gradient of the ramp leading to the toilet building is 8%. Looking in from the doorway, the free space beside the toilet seat is 48 cm on the left and 75 cm on the right. You may need your own light source in the toilet, also during daylight hours.
Fishing
Iso Koirajärvi Lake
For all types of fishing in the angling permit area of Iso Koirajärvi Lake, you must get the angling permit Koirajärvi 6566 or a combined permit for Koirajärvi-Heikinlampi. As general fishing rights do not apply within the angling permit area of Iso Koirajärvi, lure fishing (even for those who have paid the fisheries management fee) as well as rod and line fishing and winter fishing are only permitted for angling permit holders.
Fishing from the shore is prohibited in the shore area on the southwest side of Iso Koirajärvi Lake. As an exception, visitors needing accessible services are allowed to fish from the fishing platform. The prohibition area is marked on the map of the permit area.
