Sights and Activities in Käräjämäki Hill

  • Photo: Metsähallitus/Aino von BoehmKäräjämäki Hill is one of Finland's best-known antiquities and possibly the most impressive of Eura's many Iron-Age burial sites. The oldest graves are dated 400–500 AD, the Migration period, most from the Merovingian period (600-700 AD) and the youngest from the Viking Age. Käräjämäki hill was inhabited as early as the Stone Age, when Eura was still located by the sea. The name of the hill, Käräjämäki, which literally means court hill, and the stone circle on top of the hill refer to a court site, but no information is available in local folklore or historical sources.
