Uurrekarkia, Open Wilderness Hut

Open Wilderness Hut for 3 persons
The Uurrekarkia Open Wilderness Hut will be closed due to poor condition during February 2021. The nearby Taatsi and Paaraskalla Wilderness Huts continue to serve hikers. (Updated 7.1.2021)

The Open Wilderness Hut is located right next to the Lemmenjoki National Park's border, on top of Uurrekarkia Fell. The hut is located 7 km west from the Kittilä - Inari road. The easiest way to get to the hut is from southwest, from Uurrekarkianpalo, by a maintenance track which starts of from a forest road.
The hut used to be a fire guard's cabin and it is built in 1950.

A stove, a dry toilet and a wood shed.
Notices
Hut is in average condition.
Pets are permitted in the hut, but only in case that other visitors agree with it.
Water can be taken from a spring which is found about 500 m from top of the fell by a stream running northeast.
Visitors must come prepared with warm clothing, food, drink, maps, compass, orienteering skills and matches. Fog or storms can form in just a few hours. Take also your own toilet paper.
Waste Management
There are no waste management services at the hut. The goal of the National Park is to be a litter-free area and hikers are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Recycling points can be found at Yllästunturi Visitor Centre Kellokas, Pallastunturi Visitor Centre and Fell Lapland Visitor Centre. Read more about Hiking Without Littering.
