Services offered by enterprises and other organisations
Following enterprises and other organisations offer services in the Hetta Area. Some of those also offer services in the Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area. These enterprises have a cooperation agreement with Metsähallitus and they follow the principles of sustainable nature tourism (metsa.fi) when operating in the wilderness area.
Meals, Where to Buy and Prepare
Shops, Kiosks, Cafés and Restaurants
- The place with the most services, such as restaurants, shops and kiosks, is the village of Hetta.
- There are kiosks in the village of Leppäjärvi.
- A restaurant is located in the village of Palojärvi.

Wilderness Huts and Campfire Sites
- It is easiest to prepare food at open wilderness huts, which all have an iron stove.
- There is a gas stove at Pöyrisjärvi open/reservable wilderness hut.
- In Northern Lapland Metsähallitus allows building campfires if you use fallen branches and twigs as firewood. If you wish to use fallen trees for this purpose you need a separate permit. The permit can be purchased from Fell-Lapland Visitor Centre. When selecting a spot for your campfire use an old campfire site if you can find one.
- Lighting campfires is forbidden when there is a wildfire warning (ilmatieteenlaitos.fi) in effect.
- This prohibition does not apply to cooking shelters or other fireplaces with a flue.
Drinking Water
- The water in the area's rivers is usually safe to drink, but during hot weather it should be boiled first.
Waste Management
- Most of the wilderness huts in Pöyrisjärvi still have waste bins. Waste bins have been removed from Kalmakaltio open wilderness hut. There is however a recycling point not too far from the hut. Although the huts have waste bins, visitors are encouraged to bring there own waste out of the wilderness area.
- Biodegradable waste should be placed in a dry toilet or composter, and small amounts of clean paper and cardboard can be used as kindling in a campfire.

- There are dry toilets at all the open and reservable wilderness huts.
Overnight Stays
Camping
- Camping is permitted as an Everyman's Right (ymparisto.fi).
- You need to carry a tent or equivalent, even if you plan to stay in open wilderness huts.
- It is recommended to camp on the grounds of the open wilderness huts or at places which have been previously used for camping, to avoid wearing of the ground.
Open and Reservable Wilderness Huts
In and around the Pöyrisjärvi wilderness area there are 6 open wilderness huts and one combined open and reservable wilderness hut. Open wilderness huts are intended for hikers, skiers and other individuals moving under their own steam to use as resting points or for overnight stays. They are intended for one to two night stays.
- Staalojärvi open wilderness hut is located north of Lake Kallajärvi on the north-eastern shore of Lake Staalojärvi.
- Korteoja open wilderness hut is on the north side of Suksivaara Hill on the east bank of the stream which flows from the River Kortevuoma to the River Suukisjoki.
- Lenkihaka open wilderness hut is located between Lenkihaka Hill and Pahtavaara Hill on the east shore of a lake at the head waters of the River Aiteenjoki.
- Naltijärvi open wilderness hut is located near old cabins which Sámi herders and farmers stayed at during the summer. It is on the east shore of Lake Naltijärvi, which is on the upper course of the River Käkkälöjoki.
- Nallatupa open wilderness hut is outside of the wilderness area. It is situated 11 km north, north-east of the village of Peltovuoma on the west bank of the River Käkkälöjoki, near the boundary of the wilderness area.
- Kalmakaltio open wilderness hut is outside of the wilderness area north-west of Kieritunturi Fell near the mouth of the River Kalmakaltionoja, which flows into the River Käkkälöjoki.
- Pöyrisjärvi open wilderness hut/reservable wilderness hut is on the south shore of Lake Pöyrisjärvi, at the mouth of a river which flows there from Lake Naapajärvi. The building is in 2 parts. Half is an open wilderness hut, while the other half is a reservable wilderness hut.
Lodging in the Surrounding Area
- Private tourist enterprises rent holiday cottages in the municipal centre of Enontekiö the villages of Hetta, Nunnanen, Leppäjärvi and Palojärvi.
- There are tent and caravan spots in the villages of Hetta, Nunnanen, Leppäjärvi and Palojärvi.
- There are hotels in Hetta, the municipal centre of Enontekiö.

Accessible Services
- There are no specific accessible services in Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area.
- The building, which houses Fell Lapland Visitor Centre is accessible by wheelchair. The nature centre is located in the village of Hetta. A campfire site shelter by the nature centre is also accessible by wheelchair.
- Fell Lapland Visitor Centre has an accessible toilet.
Other Services in the Surrounding Area
- The closest bank, pharmacy and medical centre are in the village of Hetta the centre of the municipality of Enontekiö.
- There are shops in the village of Hetta.
- There are a fuel distribution points in the villages of Hetta and Palojärvi. There is also a service station in Hetta.

For Entrepreneurs
Tourist entrepreneurs operating in national parks or other areas managed by Metsähallitus need a cooperation agreement. A fee is charged for using the routes and service infrastructure for business activities.
