What can one do in Kemihaara Wilderness Area?
Go Wilderness Trekking
There are no marked trails in Kemihaara Wilderness Area, so it is only suitable for independent hikers.
Ski Cross-country off Trails
Kemihaara Wilderness Area is for those who are experienced in winter trekking and want to experice something demanding. There are no maintained skiing trails in the area.
Go Fishing
Fishing is permitted in the River Sorvortajoki if you purchase the Korvatunturi (3546) angling permit (www.eraluvat.fi). The head waters of the River Kemijoki are protected and fishing is therefore forbidden. Angling in the wilderness area requires the national fisheries management fee (eraluvat.fi). Permits can be bought from Metsähallitus' webstore (eraluvat.fi).
Fishers need to check the restrictions on fishing sites at kalastusrajoitus.fi (In Finnish).
Go Hunting
Hunting is permitted in the area for those who purchase a Sorvorta 3607 hunting permit. Permits can be bought from Metsähallitus netstore (eraluvat.fi, in Finnish).
Go Berry and Mushroom Picking
The area's bogs have abundant cloudberry crops and the slopes of hills are filled with blueberries.
Go Swimming
Swimming is permitted in the area, but there are no actual swimming spots.
